Haitian ESL Readers Project
The goal of this project is to prepare ESL graded readers for Haitian high school classrooms. This is a collaborative effort between the Montreal researchers and authors who prepare the materials and the Haitian high school teachers who test out the materials in their classrooms and give feedback.
Collaborators:
Canada:
- Each level is given a topic.
- Each level is organized into a 'stream' which moves from the most familiar topics (Haitian context) to the least familiar contexts (International)
- The texts are calibrated to include only high-frequency vocabulary
- Exercises teach grammar structures, high-frequency vocabulary, collocations and provide opportunities for speaking through dialogues.
